Changes in HP 9000 Containers A.01.06 2.1 Defects fixed: 001 : Secondary groups for users get deleted during addition of hp9000 template 002 : Automatic detection of HP 9000 HP-UX version fails for some legacy environments 003 : Addition of hp9000 template fails due to an existing link, *.so.1, under //usr/lib/security/ 2.2 Enhancements Tool for automating user migration 004 : Newly provided hp9000_conf_users utility merges HP 9000 users and groups to native passwd and group files. It also merges shadow passwords, NIS configuration and some other system configuration files such as /etc/hosts. Tool for automating DCE configuration 005 : hp9000_dce_setup utility automates the changes required for enabling DCE services inside an HP 9000 container. 3. HP 9000 Containers product overview HP 9000 Containers is a set of tools that enable quick transition of application environment from an HP 9000 server to an HP-UX 11i v3 operating system instance on an HP Integrity server. It provides a mechanism to re-host the complete HP 9000 user space environment without the need to re-compile and re-install individual applications and with minimal re-configuration and application inventory preparation effort. The transitioned applications reside in a chroot environment (called the HP 9000 Container) along with the HP 9000 commands and libraries. The HP 9000 Container have its own IP address which can be used to login, start/stop applications and network. The HP 9000 Container can be started, stopped, exported, imported and deleted. However, it is not a virtual machine and hence it cannot support HP 9000 HP-UX kernel, kernel intrusive applications, device drivers, system administration commands and system management related applications inside it. HP 9000 Containers is built using two key HP-UX technologies - the HP ARIES dynamic binary translator, which has proved to be a reliable tool to transition well-behaved HP 9000 applications without recompilation, and HP-UX Containers (formally Secure Resource Partitions - SRP) which allow creation and management of multiple isolated execution environments within the same HP-UX operating system instance. 4. There is no version of HP 9000 Containers supported with HP-UX Containers (SRP) A.03.00. HP 9000 Containers A.03.00 is supported with HP-UX Containers version A.03.01 (or later). 6. Migrating from HP 9000 Containers A,01.0x Migrating an HP 9000 container from A.01.0x to A.03.0x classic model requires downtime and may involve some or all of the following steps: - Update to HP-UX March 2011 OE (or later) - Uninstall HP 9000 Containers product A.01.0x - Install HP-UX Containers A.03.01 (or later) - Run SRP workload container migration script - Install HP 9000 Containers A.03.0x - Run HP 9000 container migration script Migrating an HP 9000 container from A.01.0x to A.03.0x system model is not possible without deleting and re-configuring the container. This may also need some additional environment specific manual steps. For more details, refer to "Migrating from HP 9000 Containers A.01.0x" section in HP 9000 Containers Administrator's Guide. 7. Unsupported features in HP 9000 Containers A.03.00 7.1 System management related applications inside the container 7.2 No users or applications are supported in the global container, apart from those related to system administration or management 7.3 Some legacy HP-UX commands, utilities and applications are known to fail with large utsname, long hostname (more than 8 characters), large PID (more than 30000), large base page sizes (greater than 4), numeric UID and large UIDs/GIDs. To continue using such commands and applications inside HP 9000 Containers, users are advised not to configure the HP Integrity HP-UX 11i v3 host with expanded tunables 7.4 HP 9000 system container limitations 7.4.1 No support for trusted mode 7.4.2 No support for accounting (including user accounting) 7.5 HP 9000 classic container specific limitations 7.5.1 No support for inetd inside container (telnet, ftp, remsh, rlogin, rcp etc) 7.5.2 No SD (Software Distributor) tools and patching support 7.5.3 No support for multiple containers on the same HP-UX instance 7.5.4 No support for container cloning For more details, refer to HP 9000 Containers Limitations section in HP 9000 Containers Administrator's Guide. 8, Known issues in HP 9000 Containers A.01.06 8.1 Some commands do not report container specific information. 8.2 The import operation changes ownership of files, if same user name or group name exists on the Integrity host. 8.3 SD (Software Distributor) based patching is not automatically disabled for files copied from global compartment as part of container creation. 8.4 There is a set of commands for which read and execute permissions have been disabled inside an HP 9000 container. SD commands such as swverify and swinstall would fail for products that package these commands. 8.5 Some applications that use RPC service registration are known to fail inside an HP 9000 classic containers For more details, refer to HP 9000 Containers Limitations section in HP 9000 Containers Administrator's Guide. ###############################################################################
