Networking impacts summary

|

HP-UX 10.x and HP-UX 11.x contain changes and enhancements
related to networking. Some of these impacts may require you
to modify your source code.
|
HP-UX 11i contains very few networking-related changes to support 64-bit computing.
There has been a change to the X/Open socket interface to accommodate 64-bit
computing. The TLI interface is not supported in 64-bit HP-UX 11.x. IP addresses
remain 32-bits, even for 64-bit applications.
Most of the changes for networking occurred between HP-UX 10.20 and 11.00,
in the interim 10.30 release. These changes include support for NFS PV3,
NIS+, the Praesidium/Security Service (P/SS), and more. The BSD-based
Transport code used in HP-UX 10.20 was replaced with a STREAMS-based
Transport stack. For more information, see the
HP-UX 11.00 Networking Impacts
Summary.
Post-11.00 changes include the following:

description |
IP addresses
|
IP Addresses remain 32 bits, even for 64-bit
applications.
You need to examine how IP addresses are used in software that
is recompiled for 64 bits. |
X/Open sockets
|
X/Open Sockets parameters change type from size_t to
socklen_t. These changes are consistent with 64-bit changes to X/Open
Networking Services, Issue 4. |
mail
|
This command has been marked "Withdrawn/To be
Withdrawn" in X/Open Commands and Utilities Issue 4 Version 2.
This means that these utilities are not required to be present
on systems that conform to the X/Open standard in the future.
X/Open may choose to specify a similar replacement command that
addresses the problems in the existing command. |
TLI interface
|
The TLI interface is not supported in the 64-bit
environment.
Only the XTI transport level interface is supported. |
