HP-UX 11i v1.6 critical impact:

TCP-specific socket options - not available; potential enhancement (CrUn131)

Problem description

The identified Transport Control Protocol (TCP) socket options accessed using the setsockopt and getsockopt calls exist only on Tru64 UNIX, but not on HP-UX.

The following TCP options are not available on HP-UX:

  • TCP_RPTR2RXT - Set repeat count for R2 RXT timer

  • TCP_KEEPIDLE - Seconds before initial keepalive

  • TCP_KEEPINVL - Seconds between keepalive probes

  • TCP_KEEPCNT - Number of keepalive probes before drop

  • TCP_KEEPINIT - Initial connect timeout

  • TCP_PUSH - Set push bit in outbound data packets

  • TCP_NODELACK - Do not delay send to coalesce packets

  • TCP_TSOPTENA - Time stamp option

  • TCP_PAWS - PAWS option

  • TCP_SACKENA - SACK enabled

Enhancement on HP-UX on future release.

Additional features and supported socket options will be added to future releases of HP-UX. Monitor the HP-UX release notes in future releases for information about TCP-specific socket option availability. For some options, there are solutions. For example, keepalive options can be set on a system-wide basis by using the ndd command. The TCP_PAWS, TCP_SACKENA, and TCP_TSOPTENA options are also allowed on a system-wide basis.
