critical impact:

sync2 - not available; use sync (CrUn175)

KN Impacts

Problem description

The sync2 function exists on Tru64 UNIX, but not on HP-UX.

The sync2 function flushes file system metadata and data from memory buffers to disk.

The sync2 function implements smooth sync, a concept that has no equivalent on HP-UX. Smooth sync was implemented to deal with databases overloading the I/O subsystem when they call sync.

Solution description

Use the sync function to achieve similar results.

Currently on HP-UX, databases are run without the sync2 syscall. Note that sync may not behave exactly the same as sync2. Review your code and applicable manpages for more information about sync.
