Problem description

The libesnmp library exists on Tru64 UNIX, but not on HP-UX. However, a replacement technology exists in some SNMP subagent development environment products for HP-UX.

The Extensible Simple Network Management Protocol (eSNMP) is the SNMP agent architecture for Tru64 UNIX. The libesnmp library provides the Extensible SNMP application programming interface.

Solution description

Use the SNMP subagent development environment supported on HP-UX.

The HP-UX product includes the SNMP system management facilities needed to manage the system, but does not include a SNMP development environment. To port SNMP subagent code from Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX you must first obtain a suitable SNMP development environment.

There are a number of good SNMP subagent development environment products supported on HP-UX. One such product is the EMANATE Subagent Development Kit (SADK) from SNMP Research. See the following Web site for more information:
