critical impact:
Cluster File System (CFS) - not available; similar functionality planned (CrUn378)
Problem description
The Tru64 UNIX Cluster File System (CFS) is not available on HP-UX. However, similar
functionality will be integrated with Serviceguard in Q3CY2005 on HP-UX 11i v2.
The Tru64 UNIX Cluster File System (CFS) provides a clusterwide single namespace,
enabling uniform and coherent access to all file systems in the cluster. The current
HP-UX file system options for Serviceguard use an individual namespace for all
files and directories, including exclusively shared files, which are unique for
each cluster node. Tru64 UNIX commands specific to CFS usage will not be available
on HP-UX. Those commands will need to be replaced with similar functionality planned for
integration with Serviceguard in Q3CY2005 on HP-UX 11i v2. Identifiers

Solution description
Replace the Tru64 UNIX CFS dependencies with similar functionality from VERITAS Storage
Foundation Cluster File System (CFS), which will be integrated with Serviceguard in
Q3CY2005 on HP-UX 11i v2.
The VERITAS CFS functionality integrated with Serviceguard will allow globally
mounted user files and applications to be accessible by all cluster members.
For information that is not globally mounted, users of HP-UX 11i Serviceguard
clusters will need to manage data on an individual, per-cluster member basis.
HP has tools today, like Systems Insight Manager, to help with multisystem
management.
If your applications contain dependencies on CFS functionality, HP encourages
you to wait for the product bundle scheduled for availablity in Q3CY2005 on HP-UX 11i v2
before porting the affected components. See also
