General

Q: Whom do I contact if I have questions about the program?
A: Contact us via email or call your local DSPP Program Center (details under 'contact us' on the partner site).

Q: How do I find the Product and Services Catalog? What if my company's information is not up-to-date?
A: The Solution Catalog is readily accessible from the DSPP site. If your entry is not up-to-date, your primary DSPP contact can log in at any time to update your company and product information.

Q: What discounts do I receive?
A: There are a number of equipment, training and marketing discounts available to DSPP members. For the latest, please see the DSPP Benefits page.

Q: I'm not a technical person - why would I join?
A: There are many benefits associated with joining the program. While the technical benefits continue to be a key differentiator for HP, there are significant sales, marketing and collaboration benefits designed for business, sales and marketing people.

Q: How does the DSPP partner program compare to HP's programs for resellers?
A: HP has regional-specific channel programs through which we manage our relationships with resellers and distributors of HP products; these channel programs are PartnerONE in North America, HP Preferred Partners in EMEA, and the HP Partner Portal in APJ. The DSPP program is designed specifically for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), developers, and consultants, and is also a powerful resource for System Integrators (SIs) and outsourcers. The DSPP program provides sales, marketing, technical and collaboration benefits to help drive alliance partner solution sales.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: There is no fee for belonging to the DSPP. To take advantage of some of the benefits to which you may be entitled, there may be some cost, for example, for using third-party services or running marketing campaigns. These are typically discounted for DSPP members.

Q: What do I need to do to join?
A: If you meet the requirements, there is an online registration form to complete.

Q: I'm already a member of the HP Enterprise Management Alliance Program (EMAP) - why would I join this one, too?
A: If you're an EMAP member and thus part of the HP Software community, then you are already a DSPP member, since in order to participate in any specific HP technology or industry community, you need to be a member of the core partner program (DSPP). The DSPP program services are open to all EMAP members.

Q: What is HP's philosophy regarding software partners?
A: Since HP does not develop or market any packaged software solutions, we rely on our software partners to provide total solutions for our joint customers' problems. We believe this fact differentiates us as we have very few competing products.

Q: I've forgotten my password - what do I do to access the program?
A: If you have forgotten your password, you can have this reset and sent to your email.

Marketing

Q: What types of marketing and sales benefits are offered?
A: HP offers a variety of services to our DSPP members, please click "Marketing and sales" on the left-hand navigation bar to see the complete listing of services and benefits available.

Q: Do I need to pay to access the marketing benefits?
A: While many benefits are available free-of-charge when you join the DSPP, to take advantage of some of the benefits to which you may be entitled there may be some costs such as paying a discounted rate for third party services. Any costs are indicated in the description of the benefit.

Q: How do I find an HP partner?
A: You can use our partner locator, (find a partner) where you can search by many criteria including region, industry or company name. You can also search by solution type, (find a partner solution).

Q: How do I showcase my company and my solution offerings in your Product and Services Catalog?
A: You can add more solutions offerings and/or update your company information by going to the Product and Services Submittal page. Only authorized personnel from each company can submit or change company information. If you have any questions please call your company's key contact or contact us..

Q: How do I use HP's virtual solution demo portal to showcase my solutions side by side with HP's product and solution demos?
A: You can add your pre-recorded demo and collateral pieces to HP's Solution Demo Portal to gain visibility for your offerings with HP's customers, sales representatives, the HP channel and other software partners. Please refer to the Solution Demo Portal (underline with link to new VISIO page) for details on this service for partners, or contact SolutionDemoPortal-support@hp.com .

Technical

Q: How do I find out about the technical benefits available to me?
A: DSPP members may contact our technical support team regarding consulting on software development problems, access to HP hardware and software, and discounts on the purchase of equipment. Please contact us by email (dspp.dev@hp.com) to find out more.

Q: Is there a fee for any of the technical benefits?
A: None of the work done by the DSPP technical support team requires a payment. Sometimes, we may refer you to specific HP organizations that are revenue-driven and may charge for their unique services.

Q: Who is my HP technical contact?
A: The DSPP technical support team does not assign technical contacts to a partner. Rather, technical contacts are assigned to each request, based on the requirements of the request and the capabilities of the team member. That person will generally remain assigned to the request for the duration of the request

Q: Is there a database with technical hints and tips that I can access?
A: Yes. Select "Technical resources" on the DSPP portal. There, you will find the FAQs and Technical tips.

Q: What if I need urgent help when I'm on a customer site? Is there someone I can call or who can help me onsite?
A: The DRC provides "best effort support", which generally will provide non-urgent support during a normal business schedule. If you require 24/7 support or have frequent urgent issues, you should obtain support contracts with HP Customer Support. See http://h20219.www2.hp.com/services/cache/457080-0-0-225-121.html for more information.

Q: I need to port to an HP platform for a customer project - what should I do first?
A: Contact the DSPP technical support team (dspp.dev@hp.com) and start a porting assessment.

Q: Are there any resources to help me tune my application running on an HP system?
A: Yes. In addition to tools and whitepapers on the portal, you may use the DSPP technical support team lab systems in your efforts. We provide on-site and remote access to HP servers and storage.

Q: I have some technical whitepapers about my products running on HP - is there somewhere I can make them available on HP's website?
A: Contact the DSPP technical support team and we'll co-author a whitepaper that features your products running on HP platforms. The DSPP website also hosts web pages for DSPP partners where partners can make product information, success stories, and whitepapers available.

Q: Some of our developers are based in Asia - are there any local resources that I can point them to?
A: Yes, AP partners may contact our counterparts in the Asia DSPP Partner Program, (Call DSPP toll free/ hpdev_support@hp.com)

Q: Do I always need to identify a primary technical contact?
A: Yes, our technical team will work directly with the primary technical contact on your issue.

Q: If I have a number of technical contacts working on HP technology, how do they each get a login to the partner portal?
A: Register as a new DSPP user and affiliate your new account with your Company DSPP membership. See "Edit your profile" and "DSPP registration options" on the DSPP portal.

Q: I want to buy HP for our own internal development systems - does HP offer partners a discount and, if so, how do I find out about it?
A: Yes, depending on the region you are in, HP equipment, software and services may be purchased from our DSPP equipment discount program.

Q: Can I borrow a system for a customer proof of concept - and, if so, for how long?
A: We generally do not lend equipment. However, contact us with your specific needs and details of the business opportunity. We may be able to provide on-site or remote access to our systems.

Q: I believe I need a patch for my loaner system - where should I go to get it?
A: Patches are distributed by the IT Resource Center, itrc.hp.com

Glossary

Company Member A company that is a registered member of the DSPP program. Companies such as Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Systems Integrators, Outsourcers, and Developers are examples of company members. Company members have access to a greater range of benefits than individual members.

Developer is a type of partner that develops applications on HP platforms. Developers typically work for companies such as Independent Software Vendor companies, corporations or can be individuals ("Individual Developers").

Individual Member An individual member is a registered member of the DSPP program and is not an employee of a Company Member. An individual member has access to the public content available on the website, and to certain additional benefits. An individual member does not have access to all of the benefits available to Company Member employees.

Industry Standard Servers (ISS) include HP product groups such as ProLiant servers, blade servers and rack products.

Independent Software Vendor (ISV) is a partner that develops - and often markets - software that runs on platforms from other vendors.

Membership requirements are satisfied by completing the appropriate DSPP application form(s) and renewing them annually. Requirements may vary by geography.

HP Partner is an entity that has a valid partner contract in place with HP. The term "partner" is widely used and thus does not necessarily indicate a legal partnership.

Outsourcers are external organizations that offload operations from a company, and run and manage those operations on behalf of the company, usually by making more efficient use of worldwide labor, capital, technology and resources.

PartnerONE (in the US) is the channel program through which HP manages its relationships and compensates resellers in the United States. Members must meet baseline requirements for authorization to resell HP products. Note that the equivalent program in EMEA is called the HP Preferred Partner program, and in APJ it is called the HP Partner Portal.

Requirements are the prerequisites one needs to satisfy in order to become an HP DSPP member. Requirements are determined by HP; can be changed by HP at any time and vary by membership level and geography.

Renewal refers to the process every DSPP member needs to go through annually to ensure all information is current.

Small and Medium-Sized Business (SMB), as defined by HP, refers to businesses with less than 1,000 employees.

Specialized Programs refers to HP's special interest partner initiatives; these initiatives are focused around both particular industries (such as Financial Services) and specific technology solution areas (such as Information Management).

System Integrator (SI) is a partner that has the ability to integrate multiple technologies (hardware, software and services) and provides the design and implementation services to a customer for a fee.
